How can we elevate the g&T?
“A gin and tonic, so venerable, so established, it can simply be ordered by its initials.”
ElsieÂ
A G&T is no longer as simple as ‘add tonic to gin’. Today, garnish is as important and impactful. Traditionally, a wedge of lime, a slice of lemon or whatever is recommended by the gin makers themselves is the garnish. As well as beautifying your glass, the garnish in a G&T infuses and builds flavours that complement, accentuate or contrast the botanicals of the spirit.
Â
So what do we recommend for Height of Arrows? Well… we don’t have a recommended garnish. We want you, your bartender to experiment, invent and build your perfect serve using the flavours of Height of Arrows. If that’s an intimidating prospect, I’m here to help.
Let's strip it back to basics
Firstly, what are the botanicals? What are the flavours? Juniper, sea salt and beeswax. Aside from a hint of salinity, the main flavours of Height of Arrows stem from juniper berries. Juniper berry is a fascinating botanical, strictly speaking, it’s a cone, not a berry and is closely related to the pinecone. So is pine the flavour of Height of Arrows? Well no, not just pine anyway. Juniper is a complex flavour bomb that can deliver bright, citrussy, woody, earthy, fresh and fruity characteristics.Â
Â
The juniper used by Height of Arrows comes from Italy and is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of juniper on earth (Grazie, Italy). We have chosen this particular juniper for its high levels of limonene – the molecule responsible for citrussy and minty flavours. As well as beta-myrcene, producing peppery and piney tastes.Â
