Black Malt

Black malt is a deeply roasted malt with an intense colour and roasted flavours. In small quantities, black malt provides similar flavours  to chocolate malt, robust coffee, dark chocolate, but is used more sparingly to avoid overwhelming bitterness or astringency. Black malt has a historical association with dark and robust beer styles, contributing significantly to their colour and and pronounced roasted character. It plays a key role in achieving the deep hues of traditional stouts and porters.
